Word of the Week

-->
I had the best weekend with my BFF coworker. We went to Raleigh, NC for the Coaches Conference for Science Olympiad. I was inspired and in awe of the amazing things these other educators are doing for their students.

We were at the Southeastern Raleigh Magnet High School, and I was blown away with the uplifting messages that were painted throughout the school. One of my favorite quotes was: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain

I know we were there to learn science, and holy cow did we ever, but I couldn’t help but check out the school as well. I noticed something really neat. Each classroom had a word of the week, and it was evident that the whole entire school used the same word each week. They were Bloom’s Verbs also known as Power Verbs.

We’ve had a lot of discussion about how to teach our K-2 students these words each week, but honestly, we haven’t really figured it out. I had a light bulb! I knew that I needed to create some posters that were kid friendly with pictures, examples, and the definition because you know, kids learn in pictures!

Here's an example!

I cannot wait to use these with my students and to see the difference this makes. I will update you after the twelve weeks is up! Click HERE to view more about these posters and how I plan on using them. They are going to rock!
